This tale of how people and peoples have been helped by angels and other angelic beings is woven into a spellbinding narrative that brings together Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Elijah, Mary and Jesus, Mohammed, Joan of Arc, the angels who helped Hungarian Jews persecuted by the Nazis, and stories from African, Native American and Celtic traditions.

Brooding, mysterious, and very, very old, the ancient yew trees of England have inspired magical poetry and historical speculation. Where does the poetry end and the history begin? This talk looks at the churchyard yew in literature and archaeology. It takes the story back to the cultural melting-pot of the seventh century, when Irish, Briton and Saxon met in the land of Wessex on the cusp of Christianity.

 The earliest tribes of Britain and Ireland marked their new kingdoms by locating and honouring its navel or mid-point, constructing mounds, stone monuments or re-shaping sacred hills to create a link to the cosmos. At these centres, we find dragon pathways aligned to the sun, crossings of trackways pointing to the cardinal directions and the worship of the Fire Goddess. Gary will share his discoveries for a forthcoming book of these centres of power at the omphalos of England, Cornwall, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

 At the end of the world what songs will you sing? Chantelle Smith will perform the songs and music from the show 'Bríghid's Flame' and explain how her pieces have been inspired by Ireland and its myths. With guitar, bodhran and harp, Chantelle will weave the magic that has inspired her bardic creations. Chantelle is Wiltshire-based folk singer. She performs with contemporary folk singer-songwriter Talis Kimberley, with storyteller Kevan Manwaring as part of the duo 'Bríghid's Flame' and solo.

 Louise Hodgson, founder of Secret Landscape Tours, writer and artist, has spent most of her life in areas of natural beauty.
She was inspired from an early age to explore what she considered to be the roots of her spirituality, hidden and revealed in Nature.
With a pack-pony and greyhound, she has travelled some of the ancient track-ways of England. Louise has appeared on television twice, discussing sacred landscape related issues.

 His extensively illustrated presentation is based on many years of research for his book, 'The Knap of Howar and The Origins of Geometry'. The Knap of Howar is a remarkably well-preserved Neolithic 'dwelling' constructed about 3,500 BC on the remote Scottish island of Papa Westray, Orkney. Nicholas demonstrates that geometry informs the design of this 'crude' building and describes this within a symbolic context.

 The positions of churches in the South Dorset landscape, when connected together by drawn lines (church symbol to church symbol on the 1:25,000 scale map of South Dorset) reveal deliberate meaningful patterns. Jonathon will be describing and analysing these patterns. The hypothesis is explored that these patterns were created in the late Roman period and that, where parish churches now stand, there were once early Christian sacred sites.

 Dr Michael Arnheim (or “Doctor Mike”, as he is commonly known) is a practicing London Barrister and Sometime Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge.
Michael did a short talk for us in 2017, and this was so well received, we had to get him back.

 Celebrated author Horatio Morpurgo grew up in Devon and was educated at Cambridge. He returned to live in the South West and participated in the campaign to ban scallop dredging in parts of Lyme Bay. He has written extensively on the sea-bed's recovery since the establishment of a Marine Protected Area in 2008. 'The Paradoxal Compass' (2017), his most recent book, will feature at this year's Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival. It explores the West Country's relationship with the sea, history and marine conservation.

 Roger Hirons is The Plant Doctor. Dorset born and bred, he has over 35 years’ experience in the horticultural industry and is a popular and enthusiastic speaker and broadcaster on all things plant-related. Originally qualified at Pershore College of Horticulture, he spent many years running plant centres.

As well as practical and labour-saving ideas he will bring plants that will help you achieve good results with minimum effort. Some plants will be for sale after his talk.
