Dorset Village Halls Association Newsletter - March 2010

From the Chairman

You might be forgiven for thinking that we had declined into inaction, as you have not heard from us for some time.  However, we have been busy working closely with our new DCA Village Halls Advisor, Peter Orchard, to set up a new combined website for all users of Village and Community Halls in Dorset.

I am sending this newsletter through the website using the DCA contact details, and also using our own membership database, so I hope you will get it twice.  If you are the main contact for the Hall, and receive only one within the next 2 weeks, could you please write to me at baird@oldrey.com

The Website

This brings together promotion of our halls to potential users, with news and information for members from outside through DCA, and shared experience from within our membership.

It can be found through www.dvha.org.uk or www.dorsethalls.net

It includes a Venue and Activity finder, and links to maps to get directions for users wanting to find a suitable hall for their event, or where to go to participate in a particular activity.

DVHA Members and/or DCA Affiliated halls should have received a login and password from Peter for accessing our part of the website.  If your hall contact has not, please contact him on Peter.Orchard@dorsetcommunityaction.org.uk and he will give you the details.

There are opportunities for contributing your activities to an Events Calendar,  and using the ‘Classified’ section for publicising Sales and Wants.

For Halls who are Affiliated to the DCA, there is access to the ACRE Data sheets on all aspects of Halls Management and operation.

For Members of the DVHA, there is access to the ‘Knowledge Base’ of experience contributed from our membership.  There is also an opportunity to raise topics for discussion and comment in our ‘Forums’ section.

Our AGM

We plan to hold this towards the end of April, and are working to confirming the date and location in the near future.

We plan a full programme, and will be showing you round the website, and encouraging you to contribute.  Have a look at the good news on capital grant funding if you are planning any major projects in the near future.

I look forward to contacting you again soon.
