Having reached agreement with DCA over the terms of my departure today is my last day as Village Halls Adviser and I will shortly leave the post for others to take up looking after the support needs of the village halls of Dorset.
I have enjoyed my two years immensly having met some super people, having been involved in some intersting projects and having been to some of the lovliest parts of what is one of the most beautiful counties in England. As I travel through Dorset in the years to come will pass through many villages and have fond memories of my visit there during my time in this post. I will also be looking out for some signs of building works or activities that lets me know you were successful in achieving what you wanted to achieve.
Many people have asked me what I am going to do and how I will manage. I am now not that far off retirement age anyway so I am really retiring and, amongst many other things, I will be devoting more time to my passion for wildlife and sharing its wonders with others. I launched my website, www.natureofdorset.co.uk about six months ago and I have lots to do to make it much better and to involve other in it. I will also be actively at work (unpaid) promoting the Dorset Wildlife Trust and the RSPB and giving talks, leading walks and so for them. If you are wanting to do some fund raising I am more tha happy to do one of my Nature of Dorset talks for you in return for a small donation to either of the above.
What is more important than what I am going to do is what will you all do without a village hall adviser? There is a plan in place and you will be finding out more as the weeks progress. If you have a problem, please do still call DCA and someone will be able to help you. PLEASE do not let my departure leave you thinking you have no where to go - you have.
Thanks for a lovely two years, my best wishes to you all; both those of you I have met and those of whose paths never quite crossed with mine.
Bye.
Peter
