BiteSize Event: Trusted and Valued

28th SEPTEMBER 2010 - 12.00 lunch for 12.45 start.

For this session in our series of BiteSize events we are again at Frampton Village Hall and this time we are looking at essential aspects of managing a village hall. This is an event directed at hall trustees, those people that serve on management committees.

How well run is your hall? You may think you 'tick all the boxes' but do you? Are your committee members worried about the responsibilities of being a Charity trustee? Are you taking something as fact that may be fiction?

For this event I am teaming up with my predecessor, Lois Rose and with DCA's governance officer, Susi Calder, to bring you an afternoon aimed at sorting out some of those myths and misunderstandings that go around. As this can be a bit of a 'dry' subject we will be using some technology to add some fun and variety in to the event and hopefully, not only will you come away from the session with a clear mind on hall governance but you will also have had an enjoyable afternoon!

The framework is roughly:

1. You Decide! Some scenarios to consider and to decide what you would do

2. Good Practice! Lois will run through what the Charity Commission require

3. Fact or Fiction! A little quiz to extend your knowledge

4. Question Time! Time for you to ask the 'experts' about problems you may have on governance in your hall

Hallmark will be an underlying theme for the event so if you are interested in applying for Hallmark then this event will be of special interest. Even if Hallmark is not for you then there will be plenty here to interest you.

I have just learned that one insurance company is giving a small discount to Hallmark approved halls - a sign of the times perhaps. As funding gets harder to find, will Hallmark become a requisite for some funding programmes? Hallmark is something that is growing in importance all the time hence us at the Halls Advisory service trying to help halls achieve it.

One person per affiliated hall free, extra delegates £10.00. Non-affiliated halls £10.00 per delegate.
