Dorset Waste Partnership have asked that we publish the following for your information. Please address any questions to the waste partnership as shown below.
Waste collection services for public halls
We are trying to contact people responsible for dealing with waste from public halls to ensure that the correct waste collection services are in place.
As you will be aware, the household recycling and rubbish collection service in the area will be changing in March 2014. New containers will be delivered to all households and only rubbish presented in these containers will be collected, unless there are specific reasons for households to use authorised alternative containers.
Public halls are not entitled to receive the household containers free of charge. Because of this, from March rubbish will not be collected from these premises as part of the household collection.
If your hall is already signed up and paying for a collection service provided either by the Dorset Waste Partnership or a private waste contractor, your waste will continue to be collected and you do not need to contact us.
If waste from your hall is currently being put out for the household waste collection service, you need to contact us to discuss your requirements and ensure appropriate arrangements are put in place.
Services available for halls
Public halls are eligible for a household waste collection service. However, since the introduction of the Controlled Waste Regulations 2012, a charge is applicable for this waste. Please note that this is a collection-only charge and that halls are exempt from disposal charges. You can choose from the following container and charging options:
240-litre wheelie bin for general waste emptied fortnightly – £3.10 per empty
240-litre wheelie bin for mixed recycling emptied fortnightly – £2.60 per empty
55-litre recycling box for glass emptied fortnightly – 90p per empty
23-litre food waste container emptied weekly – 60p per empty
Alternative containers of equivalent capacity may be provided if a site is in a restricted access area.
If you think your hall only produces a very small amount of waste and you would like to discuss an alternative such as sacks then please contact us. Alternatively if you feel that the above containers will not provide enough capacity for the waste produced by the hall due to large functions and hiring out of the hall, you can choose to have larger containers. However, these will be charged at the full commercial waste prices.
If you know of any other public halls in the area that will need to make arrangements for their waste collection, please pass this information onto them or ask them to contact us.
If you have any questions or wish to set up a service then please contact us on 01305 221040 or email us at enquiries@dorsetwastepartnership.gov.uk by 18 October 2013.
