Fire Responsibilities and advice

Posted in

 Dorset Fire and Rescue Service

The Fire Service is holding a number of free information sessions in various areas of Dorset on various dates and would like local business people to come along. This will also be of interest to Village Halls and Community Centres.

We understand that running a business takes a lot of hard work and time to run and that’s all before you have even considered what “other” legal responsibilities you have. SO, over a couple of hours let us help you to gain a better understanding of what you need to do to keep everyone safe and your business “in business”.

Through the session we will provide you with practical advice on how to remove the likelihood of a fire and support and guidance on how to ensure your legal compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

What is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005?

In England and Wales, if you’re an employer, owner, landlord or occupier of business, you’re responsible for fire safety under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. This legislation ensures people in or around your *non-domestic premises are safe from fire.

What will I gain from coming to the session?

We will be taking a look at the following areas and will also have an open Q&A for those specific questions or queries you may have:

• What your legal responsibilities are under the Fire Safety Order.

• What is a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment.

• How to reduce the risk of fire.

• What fire alarms, warning and detection systems do I need?

• The importance of protecting the escape routes.

• Which fire extinguishers?

• The importance of maintenance and testing.

• What is an emergency plan?

• Carrying out fire safety checks at shutdown.

• Considering your business continuity plan.

• How to ensure firefighter safety.
