9th February 2010: Electricity 'Feed In' Tariffs Update

Posted in

On Monday 1st February, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced the Feed-in Tariff scheme which is to be introduced from the 1st April.

This scheme is designed to encourage a proliferation of small-scale renewables in the UK, specifically

-          Wind

-          Solar Photovoltaics (PV)

-          Hydro

-          Anaerobic Digestion

-          Domestic Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

The amounts paid by this scheme will be in addition to both savings made by purchasing less electricity from the supplier and any income earned from selling surplus power to the electricity supplier. For example, for solar PV, the tariff for 2010 has been set at 41.3 pence per kWh for most domestic installations, and these tariffs will be index-linked.

Also announced by DECC on Monday was the start of the consultation on Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI), due to close on 26th April 2010. This initial proposal is designed to promote the uptake of renewable heating, on any scale.

See DECC for further RHI details http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/consultations/rhi/rhi.aspx
